Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) selected by Ohio as Lead for High School Tech Internship Intermediary
Local Non-Profit Receives Grant Funding to Build High Tech Workforce
The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE), through their strong intern programming is collaborating with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to encourage High School students to pursue careers in Technology by accepting an internship in a business. The High School Tech Internship Intermediary will pay 100% of students’ salaries who work more than 200 hours with a company. SOCHE will begin making matches between students and companies early in January 2024.
According to recent publications, Ohio currently has over 400,000 individuals working in Technology roles across the State. This workforce is expected to grow over the next 10 years by at least 20%. In addition, Technology positions have incredibly competitive salaries ranging from $50,000 to over $150,000 annually. Based on the projected growth and current needs across Technology occupations, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has developed a program to build this critical workforce in Ohio.
The Ohio Department of Education chose several internship intermediaries across the State, and we are privileged to have been selected. The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education will work with Employers and High School students to place students into Technology positions. These positions will cover the entire range of Technology occupations (engineering, information technology, etc.) and will work to give students an excellent overview of what Technology professionals accomplish within their companies.
SOCHE will work closely with Technology First, Dayton Regional Manufacturers Association, Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association, Dayton Area Logistics Association, and other trade associations to ensure we inform as many employers as possible regarding this fantastic opportunity. Hundreds of employers who have taken advantage of SOCHE’s internship programming in the past and have found it highly effective in building workforce.
